The story of Tõutsi Aeroclub started as a story of five individuals whose distinct paths converged on a single hilltop in South Estonia. Their collective effort has created more than just an airfield; it has established a new benchmark for Estonian hobby aviation.
Priit Jaagant: The Catalyst The spark for the entire project came from Priit Jaagant. As the primary initiator, Priit looked at the scenic but challenging terrain of Tõutsi and saw a runway where others saw only hills. His vision was the engine that drove the club into existence. Priit was instrumental in the physical construction of the runway, navigating the logistical and environmental complexities of building a safe flight strip. Without his initial push and hands-on involvement in the earthwork and infrastructure, the club would have remained a mere idea.
Lauri Laasik: The Mentor If Priit provided the ground, Lauri Laasik provided the wings. A highly skilled pilot and professional instructor, Lauri took on the monumental task of teaching the other four founders how to fly. His expertise ensured that the club was built on a foundation of rigorous safety and precision. By mentoring his fellow founders from their very first take-offs, Lauri instilled a culture of disciplined airmanship that continues to guide every pilot who visits Tõutsi today.
Reigo Randmets: The Strategist The long-term viability of an aeroclub depends on more than just engines and fuel; it requires a master of organization. Reigo Randmets serves as the club’s strategic backbone. Using his strong organizational abilities, Reigo ensures that the club operates with the efficiency of a professional enterprise. From building the administrative framework to fostering the essential partnerships that allow the club to grow, Reigo’s management ensures that the founders' vision remains sustainable for generations to come.
Andrus Kõresaar: Architect Aviation requires a home that is as functional as it is inspiring. He took on the challenge of designing the club’s centerpiece: the modern hangar, merging the practical needs of aircraft maintenance with a sophisticated aesthetic, creating a professional space that honors the beauty of flight. His design ensures that the hangar is not just a garage for planes, but a place to engineering where practical thought meets the romance of the sky
Elmo Saul: The Navigator Bringing a unique perspective from the water to the clouds, Elmo Saul transitioned his extensive experience in competitive sailing navigation to the cockpit. His deep understanding of weather patterns, wind shifts, and complex navigation has added a layer of technical sophistication to the club. Elmo’s insights remind the community that flying, like sailing, is a constant dialogue with the elements, requiring a sharp mind and a steady hand.
